Bennett J. Azzara

September 19, 1940 — January 14, 2023

Bennett J. Azzara of Selden age 82, son of the late Cosmo and Antoinette Azzara passed away peacefully on Saturday January 14, 2023. He was predeceased by his wife Charlene and his beloved granddaughter Brenna. He is survived by his children JoAnn, Kathleen, James and Gauge, 4 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren and his brothers Richard, Anthony and Cosmo.


After graduation from Cardinal Hayes High School in 1958, Ben went on to work at Grumman, where he helped design circuits for the lunar module which landed on the moon in 1969. In later years, he worked as an engineer on nuclear technology at Brookhaven National Laboratory for more than 25 years until his retirement in 2005.


Ben enjoyed cars and boating. He was also an avid Yankees and Rangers fan. He insisted on fixing things rather than replacing them and could fix almost anything. He was also known for telling family and friends never to buy an extended warrantee. Family was everything to him and he had many lifelong friends.
