Dominic Caramagno

February 15, 1938 — December 29, 2021

Dominic Caramagno, 2/15/1938 to 12/29/2021

Son of the late Sebastiano and Rose Di Fazio. Adored brother of Francesca Caramagno. Beloved husband to Eileen Gorman Caramagno. Cherished father of Denise, Michael (deceased,) Joseph, Dominique, and Paul (Amy Kidd.) Also, dear uncle to Ruth Anne, John and Elizabeth. Dedicated grandfather to Matthew, Michaela, Domenico, Nicholas, Luke, Soraya and Viviana.

Dominic was born in Brooklyn, New York, a fact he was very proud of. He attended Farmingdale Agricultural and Technical Institute where he studied Construction Technology from 1957 to 1959. It was there he met his future wife. Dominic left Brooklyn after he was married in 1960 and spent the rest of his life on Long Island. Dominic was a hardworking, honest and very successful business man. In 1967, he began his mason contracting business, Dovin Construction Co. Inc with his partner Vincent Minucci, now deceased. As a result of their hard work, the company grew into a successful union enterprise doing millions of dollars of work in New York City and Long Island.

Dominic was known for his low-key personality, his humor, his love for family and friends and his great generosity to so many. He volunteered his time and money to the Salvation Army and Mary Sansome’s charity, Ciao. In 2016 Mary honored him as man of the year and he accepted his award from then New York City Mayor Bill Di Blasio.

Dom suffered from Crone’s Disease his entire adult life but never let that stop him from his work or play. He was a world traveler who especially enjoyed visiting his extended family in Augusta, Sicily. He was an instrument rated, private pilot and avid golfer and a fine gin player. He was a proud member of the Huntington Crescent Club. He collected cars and trucks, his favorite being his 1951 Chevy 3100 pick up truck. In 2017, after a bout of kidney dysfunction, he was given a new lease on life when his daughter Dominque gifted him her kidney. Dominic was a proud father and grandfather, his family and everyone who knew him will miss him.

In lieu of flowers a donation to Salvation Army (one of his favorites) Crone’s and Colitis Foundation, or the Children’s Organ Transplant Association.
