Joan M. Cobey

Joan M. Cobey, a resident of South Jamesport for 60 years, died May 14, 2018. She was 89 years old.

She was born Jan. 28, 1929 in Greenport to Joseph Sowinski and Catherine Walaszek.

She was the salutatorian of Riverhead High School’s class of 1946. She worked as a secretary at Metropolitan Life Insurance Company in Riverhead prior to her marriage to Thomas H. Cobey in 1949, after which she became a homemaker.

Predeceased by her husband Thomas Jr. in 1977, she is survived by her children Linda M. Zeleznik (James) of Salt Point, New York, Laura K. Anderson (Stewart) of Aquebogue and Thomas H. Cobey III (Joan) of Riverhead, her grandchildren Kevin Cobey, Joanne Seleznik and Jennifer Aiello and her great-grandchildren Travis Cobey, Liam Aiello and Brayden Cobey.

The family will receive visitors on Sunday, May 20 from 2 to 6 p.m. at Tuthill-Mangano Funeral Home. A funeral service is set for Monday, May 21 at 9:30 a.m. at St. John the Evangelist R.C. Church. Interment will follow at Calverton National Cemetery.
