Athanasia Kanaras, born on November 14, 1929, in Greece, passed away peacefully on July 3, 2025, in Melville, NY.
She leaves behind a family who mourns her loss deeply. Her son, Peter Kanaras, and his wife, Patricia, along with her daughter, Vasiliki Matheos, and her husband, Anastasios, remember her as a guiding star in their lives. Athanasia was also a proud grandmother of five and a great-grandmother to ten wonderful great-grandchildren, all of whom were privileged to experience her unconditional love and warmth. Athanasia was predeceased by her beloved husband, John Kanaras, and her parents, Nick and Maria Patsalos.
A cherished figure in her community, Athanasia’s culinary skills as a chef at a restaurant in Lindenhurst, NY, left a lasting impact on many who had the pleasure of enjoying her delightful dishes. Her passion for cooking was evident in every meal she prepared, reflecting her rich heritage and love for gathering family and friends around the table.
The visitation to honor Athanasia’s remarkable life will be held at the Deer Park - Mangano Family Funeral Home, located at 1701 Deer Park Avenue, Deer Park, NY 11729, on July 8, 2025. Friends and family are invited to pay their respects from 2:00 PM to 4:30 PM, with an additional visitation from 7:00 PM to 9:30 PM on the same day.
Athanasia Kanaras will be remembered not only for her culinary delights but also for her kind spirit and commitment to family. Her legacy will live on in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing and loving her.
