With heavy hearts and sweet remembrance, we announce the passing of Barbara I. Catapane, who left this world on July 15, 2026. Born on September 13, 1937, Barbara’s life was a testament to kindness, caring, and steadfast love—gifts she gave generously to everyone she touched.
Barbara was a woman who valued education from the very beginning, earning her high school diploma. Barbara’s professionalism was matched by her warmth; her reputation for being kind and caring made her a beacon of comfort and encouragement wherever she went.
Those who knew Barbara will remember the way she could lift spirits with a smile or a gentle word. Her support extended beyond her professional life into a family circle that was her greatest joy. Barbara’s life was enriched by her beloved family, with whom she shared countless treasured moments and enduring love.
She is survived by her loving children; Elizabeth (husband Christian) of West Palm Beach, FL, Donna Johnson (husband Kurt) of Dix Hills, NY, John Catapane (wife Kim) of N. Babylon, NY, and Edward Catapane of Delray Beach, FL. Barbara’s legacy of love continues in her cherished grandchildren: Christina, Nicholas, Blake, Deanna, Brandon, Dylan, Tyler, Gianna, and Justina. She found renewed happiness in watching her great-grandchildren, Talan, Danica, and Sloane, grow and learn, their laughter filling her heart anew. Many nieces and nephews remember her lovingly, grateful for her presence in their lives. Barbara was predeceased by her husband Edward John Catapane. The memory of their life together and the love they shared brings comfort even now.
The community will have the opportunity to say goodbye and honor Barbara’s beautiful life at several services. The visitation will be held on Monday, July 20, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Mangano Family Funeral Home, located at 1701 Deer Park Ave, Deer Park, NY 11729. A prayer service will take place the same evening at 6:30 p.m. On Tuesday, July 21, 2026, closing prayers will begin at 11:00 a.m., also at the funeral home. Finally, Barbara will be laid to rest at Saint Charles Cemetery, 2015 Wellwood Ave, East Farmingdale, NY 11735, with a burial service at 12:30 p.m.
Barbara I. Catapane leaves behind a legacy of compassion, gentle strength, and enduring love. Those privileged to have known her will forever remember the warmth of her smile, her openness of heart, and the small ways she made every day brighter. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
