Carole Petkunas, 84, of Deer Park, NY, peacefully passed away on February 22, 2026 at The Mary Ann Tully Hospice Inn with support and comfort of family by her side. Born in Queens, NY, the daughter of the late James and Gertrude Cesare, and beloved sibling of the late James Cesare Jr. and Lorraine Ambrose. She was a deeply loved and cherished mother of Sandra Aiello and Donna Petkunas Byrne, beloved Mother-in-Law of Randy Byrne and Ernie Aiello, a beloved long term partner and love of Walter Ciskowski, an endeared grandmother of Nikki & Megan Aiello, a loving Aunt of nieces and nephews she held closely in her heart, and a close and respected friend of many throughout a lifetime. Carole’s presence in her family and friend’s lives will be deeply missed.
Carole predominantly resided in Queens and Deer Park, NY throughout her lifetime. Carole was selfless, and deeply committed to caring for all those she loved, often at the expense of her own needs. Being an unconditional caregiver was her main purpose and mission in life. Carole’s gifts to the world and all who knew her were her laughter, joy, kindness, compassion, loving spirit, devotion, resilience in difficult times, supportive, truthful, sensitive, empathetic, and whimsical.
Throughout her life, she loved to fully celebrate all holidays—especially Christmas, birthdays, family, milestones, and went out of her way to ensure special memories were created. The many recreational joys of her life included swimming, all aspects of the beach, camping, playing cards with family, gambling in her favorite casinos, retail shopping, family vacations, domestic/international travel, listening to 50’s music, and above all, time spent with family and those she loved.
Carole will be deeply missed, and will remain forever in our hearts, may she rest in peace…..
