Charles Frank Marchese passed away peacefully on February 13th, 2023. Born in Brooklyn, NY on March 12th, 1931 to the late Antonio and Maria Marchese, he was a resident of Dix Hills, NY for the last 56 years.
Charles graduated from East New York Vocational High School before serving in the US Army, starting in 1951 during the Korean War. He was deployed to Korea and worked as a lineman, bringing electrification to war-torn villages, including the modern South Korean capital of Seoul. Upon returning home from the war, he married Laura Marchese on July 11th, 1954.
Shortly after his military service ended, Charles started working at the O. Thompson Elevator Corporation, where he and his brother Joseph worked their way up until they became part owners of the business in the 1960s. In 1977 he founded C&L Elevator Controls, an entrepreneurial venture that through hard work brought significant success. He served as CEO until his retirement in 2002.
Charles is survived by Laura, his wife of nearly 69 years; their children Donna (Marc) and Anthony (Carolyn); as well as three grandchildren, Sean and Max Kross and Ava Marchese. He is also survived by his sisters Virgina Luppino and Paula Augello, as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother Frank who was killed in action during the Second World War, his brother Joseph, and his brother Gaetano.
Charles was a kind and generous son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He was a passionate fan of the Brooklyn Dodgers, the New York Football Giants, the Mets, the Rangers, and the Knicks. He spoke a Sicilian dialect of Italian, he loved to build and design objects and architectures, and he was an avid softball player.
Memorial contributions in Charles’ name can be made to the Disabled American Veterans Charitable Service Trust.
We invite all who wish to pay their respects to Charles Frank Marchese to meet us no later than 9:15am at Mangano Funeral Home 1701 Deer Park Avenue Deer Park NY 11729 and you may process with us to Saints Cyril and Methodius Church. Military Honors will be offered at 10:00am in front of Saints Cyril and Methodius R C Church at 10:00am. The funeral Mass will immediately follow this ceremony.
