Domenico Frank Smimmo

November 1, 1932 — June 7, 2024

Dear Friends and Family,

With heavy hearts, we share the news of the passing of our beloved father, D. Frank Smimmo, affectionately known by his friends in NY as "Cheech" and by his friends in Maine as "The Bear". Frank's life was a tapestry woven with threads of service, dedication, and love for his community.

From his brave service during the Korean War, where he became 30% disabled, to his decorated tenure as a detective in the Suffolk County Police Force, Frank's commitment to others knew no bounds. His journey continued in Maine, where he embraced new roles as a registered Maine Guide, entrepreneur, referee, and advocate for environmental conservation.

Frank's impact reverberated far and wide, touching the lives of many through his generosity, leadership, and unwavering spirit. His recent visit to Winthrop, Maine, on Memorial Day of 2024 was a testament to the deep connections he cherished with his Maine family and friends.

In honoring Frank's memory, we kindly ask that no flowers or gifts be sent to the funeral home or our residence. Instead, we invite you to join us in a tribute that would warm "The Bear's" heart: making a donation to the Parking Lot repairs (ADA Compliance) for American Legion Post 40. This project aims to ensure accessibility for all, aligning with Frank's lifelong commitment to inclusivity and support for his fellow veterans.

Donations can be sent to:
