Dominico Menduni aged 94, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on April 20th 2026. He leaves his loved ones with many beautiful and happy memories of his kindness, generosity, and humor.
He is survived by his loving wife of 73 years, Joann, as well as his children: RitaLynn (Tom) Mammano, Susan (Frank) Dellaquila, Rosalie (Jim) Menduni-Philipps, and is predeceased by his son Charles. His grandchildren: Joseph (Maggie) Mammano, Robert (Libby) Mammano, Christopher (Georgina) Mammano, Michael (Lauren) Dellaquila, JennaLynn and Stephen Philipps. His great grandchildren: Gabe, Amelia, Jan, and Julia.
Dominico was born in Brooklyn on Jan 14th, 1932. He was always known for his strong work ethic and devotion to family. He began working at his father’s fish store in Greenpoint at a very young age. In his teen years he moved to Flushing, Queens and shortly after met and married the love of his life, Joann, who conveniently lived across the street.
He spent several years serving his country in the U.S. army, including a stint in Germany. He had many and varied occupations over the years, including 30+ years at the NYC Department of Sanitation, where he worked with distinction.
Everything he did, he did with his whole heart and gave 150%. Whether it was tending his garden or meticulously cleaning and organizing his (or anyone else’s) house and garage. He was a fantastic cook, and known for making more than enough food to feed an army, especially on Christmas Eve.
He was always one to enjoy a celebration of any size. Even well into his old age he could dance the Lindy like no one else. He was always full of interesting stories, and was always quick with a saying or anecdote for any occasion.
He was dedicated to his children and grandchildren. Often traveling far and wide for swim meets, ballgames, graduations, and many other important life events. He kept many close to his heart by saying prayers daily for everyone important to him.
He will be remembered for his loving heart, his ability to make anyone smile, and his strong faith.
