Dorothy McCormick passed away peacefully at home and in the company of family on October 19 2025 at the age of 94. Dorothy was one of eight children and born to parents Patrick and Nora in Ballymena, in the north of Ireland on August 18, 1931. She carried with her a rich tapestry of memories of her childhood and recalled fondly summers spent with her grandmother Margaret in the scenic village of Waterfoot on the Antrim Coast where she sang in the church choir.
Dorothy immigrated to the United States in December of 1951, settled in New York City, and became a proud naturalized citizen. She worked as a telephone operator for the Mobile Oil Company and married John McCormick of Brooklyn, NY on November 19, 1960 with whom she made a home in Deer Park, New York.
Dorothy’s hobbies and interests included knitting, sewing, baking, and gardening, She was known also for her beautiful voice and accomplished singing. She was a member of the Columbiettes, the Rosary Society, and the Red Hat Ladies.
Dorothy is survived by her loving husband, John McCormick, her son John and daughters Deirdre, Bridget, and Rory, grandson Seán, sisters Nora Brill and Gemma Sanginito, and nieces and nephews around the world.
Visitation services will be held at Mangano Family Funeral Home, Inc. in Deer Park, NY, on October 25, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM, with additional visitation on October 26, 2025, from 2:00 PM to 4:30 PM and again from 7:00 PM to 9:30 PM. A Mass will be celebrated in Dorothy’s honor at Saints Cyril & Methodius R.C. Church in Deer Park, NY, on October 27, 2025, commencing at 10:15 AM.
Dorothy McCormick's legacy of love and kindness will continue to inspire all who knew her. She leaves behind a lifetime of cherished memories and an enduring spirit that will guide her family and friends as they navigate the days ahead.
