Rey is a Board Certified Pediatrician who studied Medicine at University of Santo Tomas
( U.S.T.) in Manila, Philippines and trained at St. Luke’s, Maimonides Hospitals and
New York University- Bellevue Medical Center in New York. He was Teaching
Assistant at New York University College of Medicine from 1966-1969. In 1974, he
started a full-time pediatric practice in Babylon, Long Island wherein he retired in
December 2011 but maintained his love of children, art and health administration.
Nevertheless, he held an affiliation with the New York College of Osteopathic Medicine
as a Clinical Assistant Professor of Pediatrics from1995 to 2005. He graduated in 1998
with a Master in Health Administration, with distinction from Hofstra University
SOEHHS in Long Island and presently one of the seven member of the Dean’s Advisory
Board .
A self- taught artist, in 1971 he started painting oil on canvas but stopped later to devote
full time in private practice of Pediatrics. In June 1999, he enrolled at The Art League of
Long Island and started working with watercolor and pastel. He honed his skill further by
studying oil portrait painting as well as landscapes in acrylic at Babylon Citizens Council
on the Arts. He is enrolled in drawing and portrait painting in oil at the Art Students
League in New York City since May 2012. He has exhibited solo and group in Dix Hills
Public Library and Heckscher Museum , both in Long Island, Walt Disney World
(Florida ), Philippine Center ( NYC ) several times , University of Connecticut, Hofstra
University ( Originator of yearly Alumni Exhibits), Marriot Marquis Hotel (New York),
Asian Fusion Gallery ( New York), Westin Galleria ( Houston ), Walt Disney World
(Florida), Treasure Island Hotel (Las Vegas),Charles B. Wang Center at Stony Brook
University, Hudson Artists of New Jersey, National Art League (New York City) and
Good Samaritan Hospital among others.
He is committed to exhibit solo 65 of his paintings on World of Childhood at The Art
League of Long Island in 2012. Some of his works were selected in two books by the
Society of Philippine American Artists and one book, The Future Legends, A Celebration
of Arts and Achievements by Sorrel Publishing Company. Three of his original paintings
are now permanently displayed at the UST Faculty of Medicine and Surgery Museum in
Manila, Philippines and Good Samaritan Hospital Department of Pediatrics in Long
Island.
His style of painting is impressionistic/ realistic
