Born on December 12, 1947, to Edward and Elizabeth (Bokee) Burke, he grew up in Woodhaven, New York, and spent summers with his family in Riverhead, New York, where he eventually settled full-time. He graduated from Brooklyn Technical High School and went on to honorably serve his country in the U.S. Army 505th Infantry Regiment, 82nd Airborne Division, during the Vietnam War, achieving the rank of Sergeant. Following his military service, Edward built a fulfilling career in the lumber industry. Over the years, he developed a particular expertise in, and advocacy for, western red cedar that he would gladly impart to his family, friends, and anyone he met at any opportunity. He will be remembered as a man of deep integrity and faith, cherished for his generosity, thoughtfulness towards others, and wonderful, raucous sense of humor.
