Edward J. Schmidt, a beloved husband, father, and educator, passed away peacefully on September 9, 2025, in Riverhead, New York. He was born on November 9, 1931, in Brooklyn, New York, to Walter and Katherine Schmidt, who predeceased him.
Edward dedicated his professional life to the noble vocation of teaching, serving as a high school teacher at Valley Stream South High School. His passion for education and commitment to his students left a lasting impact on countless young minds. Edward held a master's degree, which underscored his dedication to fostering knowledge and learning. A proud veteran, Edward served in the Army from 1954 to 1956, embodying the spirit of duty and service that he carried throughout his life.
Edward is survived by his loving wife, Virginia Schmidt, and their three children, Nancy Schmidt, Doug Schmidt, and Ken Schmidt. He was also a cherished grandfather to six grandchildren, who brought immense joy to his life.
His legacy will continue through the many lives he touched, both in and out of the classroom. Edward's warmth, wisdom, and unwavering support will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
