Edward McEvoy, 87 of Stuart, Florida passed away peacefully on December 4, 2025.
Born September 16,1938 in Cortland, NY, Edward was the oldest of four sons born to Harold “Deke” McEvoy and Dororthy (McGuire) McEvoy. He graduated from St. Mary’s High School in Cortland and attended business school in Syracuse, NY, earning his associate’s degree.
Married to Katherine (Berry) for 60 years, they resided in Canastota, NY, Bronx, NY, Towson, MD, and West Chester, OH before permanently locating to Long Island, living in the same house in Dix Hills for more than 50 years.
Personable, with a smile for everyone, Ed excelled in business-to-business sales. His ability to develop developing strong relationships with his co-workers and customers. He retired at age 77 with more than 25 years of loyal service with NJ based Jones & Auerbach, providing companies in his NY metro territory with parts to keep running successfully.
An avid NY Giants and NY Yankees fan, Ed ‘s passion for sports, especially basketball led to his years as the CYO coach for St, Matthew’s Church’s Matt Youth program and later, his focus turned to officiating JV and Varsity HS Basketball games throughout Suffolk County. He played golf as much as possible and enjoyed league bowling, reaching the milestone perfect 300 game. He and Katherine always had delightful stories from their bowling tournament adventures with friends and fellow Knights.
Ed was an active member of St Matthew’s Roman Catholic Church in Dix Hills, serving as an usher, Eucharistic Minister, and lector. He earned the 4th degree from the Knights of Columbus, served as Grand Knight for his council and remained active as Past Grand Knight until relocating to Florida in 2020.
Edward is predeceased by his wife, Katherine, his parents, and his brothers, John, H. Patrick, and Gerald. He is survived by his loving daughter, Kim, son-in-law Kevin, grandchildren Kathryn Martin- Mahoney (Kyle), and Craig Martin (Hillary) and three great-grandchildren, Owen Martin, Sydney Joan Martin and Daphne Mahoney, sisters-in-law Theresa Bocker(Rich) and Mary McEvoy, nieces and nephews Kristen Mc Evoy, Molly McEvoy, Christy (O’Malley) Petruzzelli, Patrick Mc Evoy, Luke McEvoy, Michael O’Malley, Matthew O’Malley, Daniel O’Malley and their families.
Calling hours will take place on Thursday, December 11 from 4-7pm at Mangano Funeral Home, Deer Park Avenue, Deer Park, NY. Funeral Mass, 9:45am Friday, December 12 at St. Matthew’s RC Church, Service Road, Dix Hills, and interment at Pinelawn Memorial Park.
