Elizabeth Anne Stewart, a devoted matriarch and cherished member of the Riverhead community, passed away peacefully on April 29, 2026, in Riverhead, New York. Born on March 16, 1929, in New York, New York, Elizabeth lived a life marked by dedication, kindness, and unwavering commitment to her family and work.
Elizabeth earned her associate’s degree, paving the way for a fulfilling career. She proudly served as a secretary at Pulaski Street School in Riverhead, NY, where her professionalism and warmth left a lasting impression on colleagues and students alike. Her work was characterized by meticulous attention to detail and a deep sense of responsibility—qualities that made her an integral part of the school’s community.
She was born to William and Helen Nemety, who precede her in death. Elizabeth shared a lifetime of love with her late husband, Walter H. Stewart. Together, they nurtured their family with care and devotion. Elizabeth is survived by her son, James W. Stewart, and his wife, Brigid; her daughters, Emily Chizever and her husband Richard, and Elizabeth Thomas and her husband Jeff. She also leaves behind a large and loving family of grandchildren—Jeffrey, Matthew, Caitlin, Brett, Jeb, Chelsea, Caty, Robert, and Christopher—and great-grandchildren Lawson, Teddy, and Charlie. Her daughter Nancy Bagshaw preceded her in death.
Visitation will be held on Monday, May 4, 2026, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Tuthill-Mangano Funeral Home, located at 406 East Main Street in Riverhead, NY.
Elizabeth Anne Stewart will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by all who knew her. Her legacy of kindness, dedication, and love endures in the hearts of her family and community.
