Gary N. Ording, a cherished member of the Suffolk County Community College community and a beloved father, passed away on October 30 2024, in Smithtown, New York, at the age of 90. Born on January 11, 1934, in Bay Ridge Brooklyn, New York, he spent his life making significant contributions to both education and his family.
Gary dedicated his professional life to teaching and technology as a Professor of Mathematics and Computers at Suffolk County Community College, where he also served as the Director of the Computer Center. His passion for learning and sharing that knowledge left a lasting impact on countless students and colleagues alike.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Gary was an Army Veteran who proudly served during the Korean War, reflecting his dedication to his country. His service is a testament to his character and commitment. In his personal life, Gary found joy in many pursuits. He had a profound love for dancing, which brought people together through the rhythm of life. His adventurous spirit was evident in his passion for traveling the world, exploring new cultures and experiences. Golf provided him with both a sport he loved, and quality time spent with friends, while puzzles offered him a fulfilling challenge that he enjoyed.
Gary is survived by his loving daughters, Linda (Douglas) Ording-Bauer and Sue (Michael) Morgigno, as well as his son, Kenneth G. (Dee) Ording. He will be deeply missed by his seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren and one baby boy on the way. As well as all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
Friends and family are invited to pay their respects during the visitation on November 3, 2024, from 6:00 PM to 9:30 PM at the Mangano Family Funeral Home of Middle Island, located at 640 Middle Country Rd, Middle Island, NY 11953. Gary’s legacy will live on through the lives he touched, and the memories shared with those he loved.
