Helen Mary Campbell Martens, 88, passed away at her home in Mt. Sinai, New York on May 12, 2024 surrounded by her loving family.
Born December 16, 1935, she graduated from St. Edmund Commercial High School in 1953.
She was married to the love of her life William (Bill) Martens on June 9, 1956, in Brooklyn. Helen was pre-deceased by Bill as well as her mother, Aileen Campbell Militscher, Father Joseph Campbell, daughter-in-law, Kim Sholty, son-in-law, Mark Susnow, and grandsons Izak Martens-Terry and Dylan Susnow.
Helen is survived by her children: Jeanne Martens (Jamie Connelly), Annie Susnow, Barbara Martens, Robert (Michi) Martens, Joseph Martens (Lissa Montgomery), Susan (Derek) McKane, Richard (Denise) Martens, Jennifer (Michael) Juliano; grandchildren: Rachel (Brooks Borchers), Dean Young, Joanna Connelly, Joshua Susnow, Makaela Susnow, Savanna Susnow (Trevor Storey), Jonah James, Aileen Martens, Kathleen Martens, William Martens, Jack Martens, Finn Martens, Hunter McKane, Saskia McKane, Ava McKane, Desmond (Hannah) Martens, Amelia (Ben Roy), Violet Helen Martens, Madeleine Juliano; great-grandchildren: Ezra and Rosalyn Borchers, Diana Rose Martens, Rory Roy, and Xavier Storey.
Helen was the Matriarch of the Martens Family. In this role, she was mother, confidant, friend, grandmother and great-grandmother. She lived a life of service through her church, as a Eucharistic Minister and Prayer Group Leader. She loved learning, was an avid reader, an accomplished gardener, Mahjongg player and in her younger days, loved dancing and travels with Bill.
Friends may visit the Mangano Family Funeral Home of Middle Island, 640 Middle Country Rd, Middle Island, New York on Wednesday, May 15, 2024 from 2:00 P.M. – 4:00 P.M. and 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, May 16, 2024, at Infant Jesus Chapel, 200 Belle Terre Rd, Port Jefferson, New York., beginning at 10:30AM.
