James P. O'Hallorans, a beloved figure whose life was defined by selflessness, courage, and bravery, passed away on September 27, 2025, in Calverton, New York. He was born on July 2, 1938, and lived a life rich with experiences that shaped the man he became.
At a very young age, James, along with his brothers and sister, faced the profound adversity of being orphaned. They became wards of the Roman Catholic Sisters of Charity at the Foundling Hospital in New York, navigating the foster care system where they were placed in various homes and sometimes separated. Despite these adversities, they remained a tightly knit family throughout their lives, showing their resilience of their spirits and the love they had for one another.
James served honorably in the United States Army for 22 years, attaining the rank of Master Sergeant. His commitment to his country was recognized with a Purple Heart, reflecting the bravery he displayed throughout his military service.
He was preceded in death by his father, Jesus O'Halloran, mother, Julia Marrero Perez, and siblings: Juan, Julia and Joseph. Their memories will forever be a part of James’s legacy, echoing in the hearts of all who held him dear.
James is survived by his only daughter, Mary Anne Turner (Joseph), and his cherished grandchildren: Yasmin Campos (Jose), Jessica Miller, and Jarell Ramsey. He was also a proud great-grandfather to Amiyah, Ava, Jackson and Brandon. He will be missed by his nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends. The love he shared with his family will be forever remembered and cherished.
James will be remembered not only for his formidable presence but also for his unwavering spirit and the profound love he inspired in those fortunate enough to know him.
