Jo Ann Sciacca

Jo Ann Sciacca, of North Babylon, New York, passed away peacefully on September 17, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family. She was born on March 23, 1947, in Brooklyn, New York.

Jo Ann grew up in Brooklyn and, as a teenager, moved to Uniondale with her parents, Sonny and Ann, and her brother, Pat. She would spend the rest of her life on Long Island, building a beautiful life and loving home in North Babylon with her beloved husband of 55 years, Vinny, and their daughters, RoseAnn and Deborah.

Family was always at the very center of Jo Ann’s world. Together, they created a home filled with love, laughter, music, and countless memories that will be cherished forever. She had a special way of knowing exactly what her husband or daughters needed to hear whenever they were going through a difficult time. Her wisdom, humor, and ability to make them laugh will remain with them always.

Jo Ann was a devoted grandmother to her four granddaughters, Brittany, Emily, Riviera, and Ivy. She always said that she received something different and special from her relationship with each of them. She cherished each granddaughter for exactly who she was and treasured the unique bond she shared with each one. When her great-grandson Gabriel came into the family, Jo Ann adored him and loved watching him laugh and play. Seeing his happiness brought her immense joy.

Jo Ann had a gift for making people feel comfortable and connected. She loved to talk and could strike up a conversation with anyone, anywhere from the nail salon and hair salon to medical appointments, restaurants, and even the checkout line. And she was often in those checkout lines because Jo Ann loved to shop, especially for clothes. She had an unmistakable sense of style and was always impeccably dressed and perfectly matched. Her love of fashion was well known, as was her love of having her nails and hair done.

She was also an amazing listener and one of those rare people who always seemed to know exactly what to say. Many people considered Jo Ann one of their closest friends. She never judged and had a way with words, humor, and just the right amount of playful teasing that immediately put people at ease. She made and maintained friendships throughout every chapter of her life from high school, working at the bank, raising her daughters, and working in the school system, to her years with the Columbiettes and the many friendships she continued to make throughout her life.

Jo Ann was proud of her volunteer work with the Columbiettes and especially loved finding ways to help others. She was always happy when she could collect donations from the stores and restaurants she visited for Columbiette’s auctions, turning even an ordinary shopping trip into an opportunity to give back.

Two of Jo Ann’s greatest loves, outside of her family and friends, were music and the beach.

Music was woven into so many of her favorite memories. She was always listening to music—from teaching her young daughters the hustle, to playing music while driving with the windows down or with her top down in her convertible, singing along while getting ready for the day, or getting ready to go out at night to go sing karaoke, dance or listen to her favorite bands.

Jo Ann’s favorite place on earth was the beach. When her daughters were growing up, countless summer days were spent there with family and friends. Later in life, she continued to spend time at the beach with her husband and friends, or simply walk along the shore by herself, listening to her music where she reflected on how grateful she was for her life.

Jo Ann will be remembered for her enormous heart, for the way she made people feel seen, heard, loved, and cared for.

Jo Ann leaves behind her beloved husband, Vincent “Vinny”; her daughters, RoseAnn Earhart and Deborah Gagnon; her sons-in-law, Gregory and Steven; her granddaughters, Brittany, Emily, Riviera, and Ivy; and her great-grandson, Gabriel. Jo Ann also leaves behind a large and loving extended family and many dear friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph “Sonny” and Angelina “Ann” Demery and her brother Patrick “Pat”.

Jo Ann was one of a kind—and there will never be another quite like her.
