JoAnn Benson, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt, passed away on November 11, 2025, in Patchogue, New York. Born on July 27, 1956, in Queens, New York, JoAnn lived a life filled with love, compassion, and unwavering dedication to her family.
While she enjoyed a rich and fulfilling life, JoAnn's true legacy lies in the relationships she nurtured and the indelible impact she made on those around her. She was the cherished daughter of the late William T. Benson and Cathy, who both preceded her in death. JoAnn was a guiding light in the lives of her children, including Erin Derosa, Sean T. Benson, Margaret Johnson, Joseph Mussi, and Kim Mussi. She also had the immense joy of being a grandmother to David Johnson, Willie Johnson, Damon Keesler, Rebecca DeRosa, Thomas DeRosa, Maddy Mussi, Julianne Keelan, Jaelynn Keelan, and Avalynn Cooper.
In addition to her immediate family, JoAnn fostered close relationships with her siblings. She leaves behind her brother, Jimmy Robinson, along with his wife Elcita, and her sister, Zane Otero. JoAnn’s depth of love extended to her family by marriage, including son-in-law Tyrone Johnson, and her nieces, Amiee Otero and Angelina Otero, both of whom were dear to her heart.
JoAnn will be remembered for her warmth, kindness, and the ability to bring people together. Her spirit will surely be missed by those who had the privilege of knowing her.
A memorial gathering in honor of JoAnn Benson will take place on November 18, 2025, at the Mangano Family Funeral Home of Middle Island, located at 640 Middle Country Rd, Middle Island, NY 11953. The gathering will be open to family and friends from 2 PM to 4:30 PM and again from 7 PM to 9:30 PM. A prayer service will also be held on the same day from 8 PM to 8:30 PM. Family and friends are invited to share their memories and celebrate JoAnn’s legacy during this time of mourning.
JoAnn Benson’s life may have come to an end, but her love and spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of her family and all who were fortunate to know her.
