Amityville, NY

Joseph Brandt (Joe B.), a beloved member of his family and community, passed away on June 17, 2025, at the age of 61. He was born on August 5, 1963, in New York City, NY.

Joe lived the first 38 years of his life in Wantagh, along with his mother, father and siblings.  For the last 23 years he lived in one of several group homes run by Catholic Charities, including Fagan Residence in Elmont, Virdone Residence in Babylon, Caritas Residence in Aquebogue and Mother Teresa House in Amityville.  He's a proud graduate of the vocational program at Abby Lane School in Levittown.  He also enjoyed the many activities of the Camp Anchor program throughout his youth. Joe happily worked at AHRC vocational programs for most of his post-school life, followed by several enjoyable years at Maryhaven's Integrated Business Center in Yaphank.  He made many friends and lasting memories at all his stops along the way.

Joe's interests outside of work were many.  He was an excellent swimmer and bowler, an avid fan of all New York sports teams, and loved music and dancing.  He traveled extensively throughout his life, including trips to California, upstate New York, Florida and Massachusetts to visit family, a Caribbean cruise with his housemates, and to nearly a dozen states to attend the NCAA basketball tournament each year.  Extended family events were also a big part of Joe's life, gathering for all holidays, birthdays and special occasions.

Joe had a sweet, easygoing, friendly personality.  If you met Joe, you were sure to like him.

He is survived by his siblings and their spouses,  brother Christopher Brandt and his wife Carolyn Brandt, sister Mary Tonkins and her husband Mark Tonkins, and brother Henry Brandt and his wife Kim Brandt.

He was predeceased by his father, Henry R. Brandt, and his mother, Jane A. Brandt. Their devotion to Joe throughout his childhood and early adult years made it possible for him to lead such a full life.

Joe left a lasting impression on everyone who was fortunate enough to have known him. He will be missed by all.
