Joseph J. Carella

Joseph J. Carella, a beloved husband, brother and dedicated train engineer, passed away peacefully on June 28, 2025, at the age of 92. Born on September 10, 1932, in Long Island City, New York, Joseph was a kind and caring individual whose presence illuminated the lives of those around him.

Joseph dedicated a significant part of his life to serving his country in the Army from 1959 to 1963, demonstrating his commitment and valor. Following his military service, he embarked on a long and fulfilling career as a train engineer for Amtrak, where he spent countless hours ensuring the safe and smooth travel of passengers across the nation, a task he approached with pride and professionalism.

Joseph was married to the Late Sadie Carella (2004) and together they spent a wonderful 50 years being married. Joseph later moved to Florida where he enjoyed spending time on the beach, watching horse races, and reading books. 

Throughout his life, Joseph was known not only for his work but also for his warm spirit and unwavering kindness. He engaged with everyone he encountered with a genuine smile and a hopeful attitude, leaving an indelible mark on the lives of family, friends, and colleagues alike. Joseph was considered the life of the party. 

His caring nature extended beyond his professional life; he was a supportive brother to Anthony J. Carella. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. 

A funeral mass will be held at St. Joseph's R.C. Church in Kings Park, NY at 10:00AM. Friday July 11, 2025.  Burial to follow at Calverton National Cemetery, Calverton, NY at 11:00 AM.

Joseph will be remembered fondly for his adventurous spirit, dedication to his duties, and the warmth he shared with everyone around him. He leaves behind a legacy of love, service, and kindness that will continue to inspire those who had the privilege of knowing him.
