Some people leave behind a legacy measured by titles, careers, or accomplishments. Lucy left hers in beauty, laughter, music, open doors, and a family that carries her memory in our hearts forever.

Lucy Ferro passed away peacefully on August 3, 2026, at the remarkable age of 99.

Born on July 5, 1927, in Manhattan, New York, Lucy was the beloved daughter of Carmine and Anna Patente. She was the eldest of three children and was predeceased by her sister, Maria Patente, her brother, Thomas Patente, and her daughter-in-law, Lynn Hill.

Lucy shared a colorful love story with her devoted husband, Thomas Ferro. Together they built a life rooted in love, laughter, family, and friendship, sharing 66 wonderful years of marriage before his passing.

She leaves behind her loving children: Robert Ferro, Lorraine Ferro, Sharon Siess, son-in-law Gordon, and Stephanie Santomauro; and her grandchildren Jarret Ferro, Summer Rose Ferro, Tom Ferro, Samantha Siess, and Nicole Santomauro, each of whom carried a special place in her heart.

To describe Lucy simply as a homemaker would barely begin to capture who she was. With her impeccable taste in interior design, and her gift for making any space warm and welcoming, she transformed her houses into homes, and was the heart behind countless celebrations. Lucy delighted in planning unforgettable parties—often with imaginative themes—where family and friends gathered around overflowing tables, laughter and music echoed through every room, where meals lasted for hours because no one wanted to leave, and there always seemed to be another chair added for one more guest. Everyone knew that the Ferro home was where the fun would be.

She had the soul of an artist. Her delicate floral watercolor paintings reflected her appreciation for beauty, and in her teen years you could find her sketching detailed elegant fashion illustrations of the 1940’s. Blessed with the voice of a coloratura soprano, she could fill a room with music that rivaled the great opera divas she so admired.

She may not have been famous to the outside world, but to her family she was a legend in our living room. Although she never pursued her artistry professionally, she believed deeply in the power of creativity, and in the importance of self expression. She poured that belief into the people she loved, becoming their greatest cheerleader and encouraging others to believe in themselves, willingly investing her time, her energy, and often her resources to support them in pursuing the dreams she celebrated so wholeheartedly.

Those fortunate enough to know Lucy remember a woman who was wise, deeply spiritual, compassionate, cultured, and effortlessly classy, yet wonderfully down-to-earth. She possessed a wry sense of humor and yes, occasionally a delightfully saucy mouth—to remind everyone that being a lady never meant being afraid to speak her mind. Though she stood just 4 feet 7 inches tall, Lucy's presence filled every room she entered. More than one person affectionately described her as "a force to be reckoned with"—a petite powerhouse whose strength, determination, and love left an unforgettable impression on everyone whose life she touched.

Family and friends are invited to celebrate Lucy's remarkable life at Mangano Funeral Home, 1701 Deer Park Avenue, Deer Park, New York, on Sunday, August 9, 2026, from 2:00–4:00 p.m. and again from 6:00–9:00 p.m. In honor of Lucy's lifelong love of music, poetry, storytelling, and the arts, a special area will be available during the wake where anyone who wishes may honor her memory by singing, playing an instrument, reciting a poem, or sharing a favorite story. All are warmly welcome to participate.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, August 10, 2026, at 11:15 a.m. at Sts. Cyril and Methodius Church, 125 Half Hollow Road, Deer Park, New York. Interment will immediately follow at Pinelawn Memorial Cemetery on Wellwood Avenue in Farmingdale, New York.

Lucy's greatest masterpiece was the family she nurtured, the friendships she treasured, and the countless lives she enriched through her generosity, encouragement, and unwavering love. Her legacy lives on in every tradition she began, every dream she inspired, every song she sang, and every heart she welcomed into her home.
