Michael Bivona, 91, passed away peacefully on September 6, 2025, at Stony Brook University Hospital. His family is deeply saddened by his loss.
Born on May 18, 1934, in Brooklyn, NY, Michael is survived by his devoted wife of more than 61 years, Barbara; his children, Laurie (Clint) and Stephen (Donna); and his beloved grandchildren Ian, Catherine, and Michael.
Michael began his career in service to his country with the United States Air Force. He served with the New York National Guard’s 69th Infantry, 42nd Division and overseas as a communication specialist during the Korean War. Afterward, he earned his accounting degree from Long Island University (LIU) in 1960, became a licensed Certified Public Accountant, and went on to establish his own firm, Michael Bivona CPA, with offices in Huntington, Massapequa, and Deer Park. He was an active member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the NYS CPA Society. Michael’s career culminated in senior leadership roles as Chief Financial Officer and later Chief Operating Officer at Manchester Equipment Company in Hauppauge, NY.
Following his retirement, Michael pursued his passion for writing, publishing several award-winning books (michaelbivonabooks.com), while continuing his charitable, philanthropic and mentoring work. He served as an Executive Member of the LIU–CW Post University Graduate School of Business, made generous contributions to the University, and in 2007 received LIU’s prestigious Distinguished Alumni Award. Michael also advised the Salvation Army Homeless Veterans Community at the Northport Veterans Hospital. His professional insights were widely recognized, leading to frequent interviews and features in publications such as U.S. News & World Report, The Street, Fox News, Forbes, and others.
Outside of his professional and charitable work, Michael was an avid boater and longtime member of the U.S. Power Squadron in the Great Neck and Peconic Bay regions. He and Barbara enjoyed countless boating excursions from Greenport to destinations throughout the eastern end of Long Island and New England. They also shared a passion for travel and dance, including a memorable trip to Buenos Aires to perfect the art of the tango. Michael and Barbara were founding members of the “Society of Tango Lovers” of Long Island, and together he and Barbara were well known in dance circles both on Long Island and at their winter home in Boca Raton, Florida.
A memorial service will be held at the Mangano Family Funeral Home in Deer Park, NY, on September 10, 2025, from 2:00–4:30 PM and 7:00–9:30 PM.
