Peter Michael Cokkinos

Husband, Father, Our Hero

Peter Michael Cokkinos, age 88, of Riverhead, NY, passed away peacefully after a year-long decline. Born in New York City and raised in Astoria, he was the youngest of seven children and the only one born in America to Greek immigrant parents.

Peter lived a life of service, love, and devotion. He proudly served in the U.S. Army and later joined the NYPD, dedicating over thirty years to protecting his city. Though his job was demanding and dangerous, he never brought that weight home.

His greatest passion was his family, especially his lifelong love, his wife and childhood sweetheart, Joan. From the moment she saw him roller skating as a boy of 14, she knew they were meant to be. They remained inseparable for life.

Peter was the kind of man who showed up—whether to help, to fix, to guide, or simply to love. He led by example: honest, hardworking, and always ready to lend a hand.

His legacy lives on through his family and the many lives he touched with his quiet strength, generosity, and unwavering devotion.
