Rita Pilar Protano, a beloved wife, mother, and cherished friend, passed away on July 18, 2026, in Deer Park, New York. Born on July 1, 1966, in Brooklyn, New York, Rita’s presence graced the lives of all who knew her for 60 remarkable years.

Throughout her life, Rita was surrounded by the deep love of her family. She is survived by her devoted husband, Richard, whose steadfast partnership was a source of enduring comfort and happiness. Rita’s legacy lives on through her children: Matthew Protano, Robert Protano, and Rita Calandra. Each carries forward the values, warmth, and caring spirit she instilled in them.

Rita had a big personality with many interests and found immense joy in things like reality tv or freestyle music. She had an admiration for wildlife, especially birds and squirrels. She loved glamour and fashion, doing her hair and makeup, and her high heel collection. Most of all, she loved her family.

Family and friends are invited to pay their respects at two visitations, both taking place on Thursday, July 23, 2026, at Deer Park - Mangano Family Funeral Home, located at 1701 Deer Park Ave, Deer Park, NY 11729. The first visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., and the second from 7:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. A prayer service will be conducted at the funeral home at 8:30 p.m. that same evening. Rita will be laid to rest at St. Charles / Resurrection Cemeteries in Farmingdale, New York, with burial arrangements on Friday, July 24, 2026. The time for the burial is pending.
