Rita A. Shelley, a loving and devoted mother, daughter, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on July 2, 2025, at the age of 67. Born on April 18, 1957, in West Islip, NY, Rita's life was a testament to kindness, hard work, and unwavering faith. Throughout her years, she touched many lives with her caring nature, embodying the virtues of compassion and love in every interaction.
As an Operator for AT&T, her career was a reflection of her dedication, a trait that she parlayed into every aspect of her life.
Rita was a person who thrived as a devoted and hard-working single mother, generously instilling her values in her son, Christian Montgomery. She approached motherhood with a fierce love and a commitment to ensuring a bright future for her child.
Rita is survived by her loving mother Mary C. Shelly. She was also a cherished sister to Mary (her husband James Smith), Ralph Shelley, Kathleen (her husband John Moir), Theresa Shelley, Kerri Ann (her husband Steven Hamler), and Tara (her husband Wayne Andrews). Each sibling shared a profound connection with Rita, as she filled their lives with joy, laughter, and an unwavering faith in them. Her faith as a devoted Catholic guided her actions and provided a framework within which she lived her life.
Friends and family alike remember Rita as a person of gentle spirit and immense strength. She served as an example not just of faithfulness but of resilience, reminding all of us of the importance of kindness and compassion. Given her loving character and her role as a dedicated mother, sister, and friend, her absence will undoubtedly leave a cherished legacy in the hearts of those who loved her.
Visitation services will be held at Mangano Family Funeral Home, Inc. in Deer Park, NY. The family invites those who knew and loved Rita to join them on July 3 from 7:00 PM to 9:30 PM and again on July 4 from 2:00 PM to 4:30 PM and from 7:00 PM to 9:30 PM. As a faithfully devoted Catholic, a Funeral Mass will be celebrated on July 5 at Saints Cyril & Methodius R.C. Church, beginning at 11:15 AM.
Though our hearts are heavy with grief, we find solace in the cherished memories of Rita’s vibrant spirit. Her legacy of love and kindness will continue to inspire all who knew her, a lasting reminder of the incredible impact one life can have on many.
