Rudolph Anthony DeAbreu

October 14, 1934 — April 16, 2025

Middle Island, New York

Rudolph Anthony DeAbreu, known to his friends as Rudy and to his children as Dad or Daddy, was 90 years old when he passed away peacefully at Good Shepherd Hospice on the 16th of April 2025. Born in St. Kitts to Carlos and Anna (nee Alves) in 1934, one of ten children, Rudy embodied the spirit of hard work from a young age, a value instilled by his father. He carried this dedication throughout his life, approaching every task with quiet determination and a commitment to excellence. Whether heading off to work or running errands around Long Island, he'd often flash a smile and a wink, declaring, "I gone yeah!"

Rudy lived in Georgetown, Guyana, a vibrant South American country that he called home for 33 years. On July 24th, 1958, he married his beloved Olga Kishna in their hometown. Rudy's unwavering work ethic was evident throughout his life in Georgetown. He braved the wild jungle, which he affectionately called the "bush," to log greenheart lumber along the river. He honed his skills as a sheet metal worker, ran a produce stand with his father, and served as a salesman at Booker Dodson's, always eager to learn and provide for his family.

Seeking new opportunities, Rudy courageously ventured to America ahead of his family, determined to forge a path for them in Middle Island, Long Island, New York. His first job was cleaning "Smithhaven Ministries," a testament to his humility and willingness to take on any challenge. He often brought his son Ronald along, instilling in him the same dedication and work ethic that had been passed down through generations. Rudy's journey in America led him to BF Goodrich, Long Island Lumber Company, Time Square Stores, Coldwell Banker, Century 21 Rustic Realty, and even a role managing payroll – a testament to his adaptability and unwavering commitment to providing for his loved ones.

Rudy is survived by his devoted wife, Olga Kishna of Middle Island, New York, and their seven children, each a reflection of his love and legacy: Sharon DeAbreu (and Miguel Becerril, and son, Rawle F. Becerril) of Bowie, Maryland; Ronald DeAbreu (and Deborah DeAbreu, and their children, Dominiique Rodriguez, Ashley and Veronica DeAbreu) of Lawnside, New Jersey; Carol DeAbreu of Tampa, Florida; Donna DeAbreu (and her children, Alexandria Cermak, Samantha Cermak, and James Cermak) of Middle Island, New York; Neil DeAbreu (and Sarita, and their children, Brandy, Neil, and Jeremiah DeAbreu) of Stafford, Virginia; Robin DeAbreu (and Ericka DeAbreu, and their children, Dr. Robyn and Isabella DeAbreu) of Columbia, South Carolina; and the late Rawle DeAbreu of Middle Island, New York. Rudy was predeceased by his siblings Thelma, Edith, Beryl, Cecil, Alan, Alvara, and Bernard. He is also survived by his sister, Agnes Persaud of Montreal, Canada, and his brother, Michael DeAbreu of London, England.

We invite you to join us in celebrating the life of our beloved Rudy, a man who touched our hearts with his unwavering spirit and love. On Friday, April 25th, 2025, we will gather to share memories and find comfort in each other's embrace. The morning will begin with service at 10:00 AM at Mangano Family Funeral Homes (640 Middle Country Road, Middle Island, NY), where we will remember Rudy's warmth, his laughter, and the indelible mark he left on our lives.

Following the service, we will make our way to 44 Wilson Avenue at 12:15 PM for drive-by, a final farewell to a cherished place that held so many precious memories. Shortly after, at 12:30 PM, we will lay Rudy to rest. Later that afternoon, at 1:00 PM, we will gather at Branches Long Island (588 Middle Country Road, Middle Island, NY) to share stories, laughter, and a meal in Rudy's honor.
