Sylvia Gregory, a beloved matriarch, was born on January 17, 1940, in the picturesque surroundings of Puerto Rico. She was destined to lead a life filled with warmth and love, qualities that she would impart to her family. On January 5, 2026, with the grace that defined her spirit, Sylvia departed from this world, leaving behind a rich tapestry of cherished memories and an enduring legacy.
A devoted mother, Sylvia is survived by her four children: her daughter Joan Gregory and her husband Charles Parento; her daughter Christine Campo and her husband Russell Owen; her son James and his wife Diana; and her daughter Jeanette and her husband Renaldo Recine. Each of her children carries forward the values imparted to them, a testament to Sylvia’s nurturing guidance.
The warmth of Sylvia’s love extended to her grandchildren—Jason, Gregory, Christopher, Alexandrea, James, Justin, Matthew, Angelina, and Renaldo—each of whom was enveloped in her affection and devotion. Additionally, she delighted in the joy brought to her life by her seven great-grandchildren, whose smiles and laughter were a source of immeasurable happiness.
Sylvia was predeceased by her beloved husband, Gaston, in 2006, a loss that shaped her journey and endeared her to those who recognized her resilience and strength. Together, they shared a partnership rooted in love, which continued to inspire their family.
Her visitation will be held at the Deer Park - Mangano Family Funeral Home on January 9 and 10, 2026, with an opportunity for friends and family to offer their condolences and celebrate her life. The scheduled mass will take place at St. Francis of Assisi on January 10, followed by her burial at Pinelawn Memorial Park.
In this moment of mourning, let us gather not only to grieve the passing of Sylvia Gregory but also to honor and reflect upon a life well-lived, a life devoted to family, and a spirit that will live on vibrantly through the generations she has touched.
