Timothy "Tim" Rooney, 64, passed away surrounded by the love of his family, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, generosity, laughter, and a life well lived.

Tim was born on July 17, 1961, in Queens, New York, to John and Lillian Rooney, who predeceased him. He grew up in Far Rockaway as the youngest of eight children. He was also predeceased by his brothers Patrick, John, Dennis, Michael, and Francis Rooney. He is survived by his sister, Bernadette, and his brother Joseph.

On December 7, 1997, Tim married the love of his life, Simone Rooney. Their story began in a way only Tim's could—while working as a taxi driver, he met Simone when he drove her to an MRI appointment in Hempstead. From that chance encounter grew a loving marriage of nearly 29 years.

Together they built a beautiful family and raised three children, Renee, Taylor, and Timothy "TJ" Rooney Jr., who were the pride and joy of his life.

Tim spent many years as a bridge painter before becoming a Foreman with Ahern Painting Contractors. A proud member of Local 806 and DC9, he earned the respect of his coworkers through his tireless work ethic, leadership, and dedication to his craft.

Outside of work, Tim was happiest at home with a Budweiser in hand, music playing in the background, and another project to work on. Whether he was building a shed, improving the backyard, decorating with countless LED lights, or preparing for his beloved Fourth of July barbecue and fireworks, he found joy in creating things with his hands and bringing people together. He loved feeding stray cats, lending a helping hand to neighbors by fixing things around their homes or shoveling snow, and never hesitated to help anyone who needed him.

Tim had an incredible gift for making people feel welcomed. He loved meeting new people, never knew a stranger, and had a way of making everyone feel like an old friend. He was known for his infectious energy, quick sense of humor, and genuine kindness. Those who knew him often said he would give you the shirt off his back. He was always ready to help without expecting anything in return, whether it was a neighbor, a friend, the garbage collectors, the landscapers, or someone he had just met. His generosity was simply part of who he was.

One of Tim's favorite sayings was, "Every day I wake up with a song in my head," and that perfectly reflected the way he lived his life—with joy, optimism, and appreciation for every day. Some of his most cherished moments were spent in the backyard, relaxing with a beer, listening to music, and sharing stories, advice, and life lessons with his children and anyone willing to listen. Those conversations will remain treasured memories for all who were fortunate enough to have shared them.

Tim leaves behind a family who loved him deeply and countless friends, coworkers, neighbors, and acquaintances whose lives were made better simply by knowing him. His kindness, laughter, generosity, and unwavering willingness to help others will continue to live on in the hearts of everyone he touched.

Family and friends are invited to celebrate Tim's life at Mangano Funeral Home on Tuesday, June 30, from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, July 1, at 11:15 a.m. at Ss. Cyril and Methodius Roman Catholic Church, followed by interment at Pinelawn Memorial Park and Arboretum.

Although our hearts are broken, we find comfort in knowing that Tim's love, laughter, and generous spirit will remain with us forever. His life was measured not by the years he lived, but by the countless lives he touched. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered always.
